Hoop Dance with Catherine

Build a strong foundation for your hoop journey! Catherine will cover basic moves and some of their exciting variations as well as how they can flow seamlessly together. Classes will have a focus on posture, conditioning, and coordination. Students will explore fundamental practices which they can come back to again and again even as they advance their skills. Hoops will be available for in class use but feel free to bring your own adult sized dance hoop if you have one. Wear comfortable active or yoga attire. Learn to shimmy, shake, tease, and peel while having fun and feeling sexy. This is a low-impact dance class, where you will learn the basics of burlesque dance. 

We will cover most aspects of burlesque movement, as well as learn a short choreographed piece during the 6 week session. Your body is beautiful, and burlesque is all about building confidence no matter your shape or size. No experience necessary. 

Gloves will be provided. 

Please bring a button down shirt or cardigan for peeling. 

Heels are not necessary, ballet or lyric shoes encouraged. We will talk about shoes the first day of class.

Do you love American Tribal Style® (ATS®) belly dance? Do you want to refine your movement? Improve your technique? Do you know which movements belong to which vocabulary family and how to use them? Or do you want to start to learn the joy of ATS and delve deeper? Then this is the intensive for you! In this technique intensive series, you’ll learn ATS® vocabulary (not limited to levels 1 or 2) in relation to both slow and fast ATS movements. Open to all dancers and skill levels, from beginner to seasoned performers!

Twice each month, we’ll go over proper technique for the featured core movements to build a stronger foundation in a 2-hour block class. Then you’ll learn to use the core movement in continuing ways moving through ATS steps from level 2 and beyond! We’ll use drills and ATS formations to explore the relationship between steps in each of the movement families. We’ll explore formations and moving in and out of chorus, class sizes permitting. Come dance and delve deeper into your love of ATS!
